Annaleigh Ashford at the carnival

 Annaleigh Ashford at the carnival

Annaleigh Ashford was one of the stars of the new sitcom, B Positive. It was about a person who needed a kidney transplant and the person who wanted to donate one to them. It was sort of a feel good show meant to tug and the heartstrings. Annaleigh’s character was a bit over the top and wild which created a lot of the comedy. It was the classic comic pairing with the other person as the straight man and her as the zany, wacky character. One did not need to see the show in order to know what the content of it was likely to be. There was sure to be pratfalls, wacky misunderstandings and hair brained schemes galore. Annaleigh’s character would likely mean well but would end up being annoying or embarrassing only for all to turn out well at the end of the 20 minute show with a heartfelt chat and a cuddle.

In one such episode, her character was being particularly annoying. There was a carnival coming up to raise money for the hospital that was in the show and for the patients there. Annaleigh was acting scatter brained and flighty and going off on all sorts of wacky tangents. Her behaviour was becoming disruptive, though she did not mean it to be. She was annoying everyone while they were trying to arrange things. At one stage, her friend had to stop her. “You need to stop. You are just getting in the way right now,” he said in exasperation. “Oh I am sorry. I didn’t mean to. I just wanted to help. What can I do at the carnival to help out?” The man smiled with a knowing smirk. “Oh there is one job that I think you will be perfect for.”

The scene immediately cut to Annaleigh’s character in a set of stocks. She had been locked in a pillory. She was wearing a brightly coloured, clown like outfit. Above her was a sign that read “Pie the clown for a dollar”. She exclaimed,” When I said that I would do anything to help out, this was not what I had in mind.” Her friend smiled as he hurled a pie at her. It landed with a splat right into her face. She gasped as the creamy pie slid down her face and the stocks, landing with a splat on the ground below. Her friend jumped up and down, pointing and laughing. She shook her head and smiled. “Anything for the cause,” she said.

At this point, there was a gathering of patients. They were dressed in hospital gowns. Her friend turned to them and said,” Come on let her have it. One pie for a dollar, to cream her.” The patients quickly handed him their money. They each quickly grabbed a pie and began to throw them at the adorable young woman locked in the pillory. The pies slammed into her face one after another as each of the patients jumped up and down in glee. “I am so glad I could make everyone smile,” she said. She licked her lips. Her face covered in creamy pie.

The show then went to commercial break. When it returned, she was no longer in the stocks. Now she was sat in a dunk tank that was filled with gunge beneath her. There was a target at the side of it. Her friend held a ball and began to shout,” Step right up and try to dunk this young lady into the vat of gunge. Three balls for a dollar.” Annaleigh sighed. Her face was still slightly covered in some of the pie from before.

People kept walking up and trying to dunk her, but their throws failed to hit the target. Towards the end, she turned to her friend and said,” I am sorry for how I acted before. I just got too excited.” He smiled. “It’s ok. I’m sorry as well. I guess it was a bit mean to put you in these situations.” “It’s ok. It has actually been kind of fun in a way.” At that point, someone threw a ball that hit the target dead on. Annaleigh’s seat fell beneath her and she fell into the vat of purple gunge with an enormous splash that splattered her friend as well. She disappeared beneath the gunge for a bit.

He called for her but she did not come out right away. He became a little worried, he leaned over the vat calling for her. As he leaned over, she popped out of the vat covered in gunge. She gave him a big hug. The purple slime dripping from her blonde hair and body. “Hey, I had to get you back a little,” she said with a giggle. Blobs of gunge dripped down from her huge nose and chin.
